How the auction works

Everything you need to know before you place your first bid.

  1. 1

    Browse the live lots

Each lot shows the current bid, how many people are watching or bidding, and when it ends. No account needed to look around.

  2. 2

Place a bid or set a max

Raise the current bid, or set the most you're willing to pay and let the auction bid for you automatically up to that amount.

  3. 3

Confirm your email (first bid only)

The first time you bid, we'll email you a confirmation link. Click it and your bid goes through — every bid after that is instant.

  4. 4

Win, and we'll be in touch

If you're the winning bidder when the lot closes, we'll contact you directly by email to arrange payment and collection or shipping.

Understanding raise bidding and proxy bidding

Your bid

A raise bid is the simplest option: you offer a specific amount right now, and if it's higher than the current price, it immediately becomes the new current bid.

If someone else bids higher afterwards, you're outbid and the page updates to show it — you'll need to come back and place another bid yourself if you want to stay in the lead.

When you place a max bid, you're not saying "I'll pay this amount right now" — you're telling us the most you're willing to pay. That number stays private. Nobody else, including other bidders, can see it.

The price you see is only ever just enough to stay ahead of the next-highest bidder. If someone else bids more later, the price automatically rises to just beat them — right up to your limit, but never above it.

This means you can place one bid at the very start of an auction and simply win it later at a lower price than you were prepared to pay, without lifting a finger again.

Frequently asked questions

What's the difference between a regular bid and a max bid?

A regular bid raises the current price to a specific amount. A max bid sets a private ceiling, and the system automatically bids on your behalf — never revealing your ceiling — to keep you in the lead until someone bids higher than it.

Why do I need to confirm my email address?

It's a quick way to make sure a real person placed the bid, and it's the only way we have to contact the winner afterwards. You only need to do this once — after your first confirmed bid, every future bid is instant.

What happens if I get outbid?

The page updates automatically to show the new price. You can place a higher bid or a new max bid at any time before the lot closes.

Why did the countdown timer suddenly extend?

To keep things fair, any bid placed in the last few minutes pushes the closing time forward a little. This stops someone from winning purely by sniping in at the last second, and gives every bidder a fair chance to respond.

What happens after I win?

We'll email the winning bidder directly to arrange payment and delivery or collection. There's no automatic checkout for auction lots — a real person will follow up with you.

Can I cancel or lower a bid once it's placed?

No — once a bid is confirmed it's binding, the same as any other auction. Please only bid what you're genuinely willing to pay.

Can other bidders see how much I'm willing to pay?

No. Only the current publicly-visible price is shown to anyone. Your personal maximum (if you set one) is never revealed to other bidders, or displayed anywhere.

What is the reserve price?

Some lots have a reserve price — a minimum amount the seller has set for the item to sell. It's never shown publicly, so bidding still starts at the listed starting price regardless of whether a reserve is set.

If the highest bid hasn't reached the reserve by the time the auction closes, the lot doesn't sell — it's passed, even if there were bids on it. Meeting or beating the reserve is the only way a lot with one set can result in a sale.

What happens if I don't pay in time?

Once we send your payment request, you have 24 hours to complete payment. If payment hasn't been received within that window, we reserve the right to offer the lot to the second-highest bidder instead.

Where do you ship?

We currently ship within Europe only. Unfortunately we're unable to ship to the United Kingdom, Switzerland, or Norway.

What currency are bids in?

All bids, prices, and payments are in Euros (€).

Will the plant look exactly like the photos?

You're bidding on the exact plant shown in the listing photos, not a similar one. That said, plants are living things — some natural cosmetic change (a new leaf unfurling, an older leaf yellowing or dropping) can occur between when the photos were taken and when your plant ships. This doesn't affect which plant you're winning, just its day-to-day appearance.

What happens if two bids tie?

Whoever set that amount first wins the tie — it doesn't matter whether either bid was a regular raise or a max/auto-bid. If your bid ties an existing one, you'll see it in the bidding history, but the earlier bidder stays in the lead. Bid higher to take over.
